“Well, it’s almost like I have an immunity to the oversaturated energy that makes the ruins so dangerous in the first place.”

–Amity, A world of nightmares never seen before

Amity can’t recollect much that was outstanding about her childhood, at least… not outstanding to her. In reality, from the past to the present, Amity’s whole being tends to be baffling.

Amity was born in a secret research bunker located deep in the Ultra Ruins – and as she grew older, she watched her caretakers become fewer and fewer… until one day, it was just Amity.
She never truly understood the dangers of the oversaturated energy or beasts of the ruins, but knew it was dangerous outside… so, Amity lived off of rations for 3 years – until lack of food forced her out of the ruins and into the floating city above.

With nowhere to go, Amity joined a street gang and worked herself up to the top ranks. She would specialize in petty theft from the wealthy, often sneaking in to high-end parties to snatch expensive jewelry and snacks.

She’d never been caught, at least until she attempted to make the socialite Rosetta her target – at which point she was promptly found out.
But Rosetta pitied Amity, fearing what self destruction would lie at the end of her path. So, Rosetta turned Amity’s life around with a sense of support and family.

In between jealousy over her ‘new family’ from her street gang, and the emerging urgency of what she left behind in the ruins, will Amity be able to balance it all… and make sure mom doesn’t find out?

Appearance

Amity is 5’4″, with a thin build. She has sandy blonde hair and orange eyes.

Per her species, Amity possesses cat-like ears that sit atop her head, with bell-like ‘false eyes’ inside with ribbon-like tassels attached. She has two large tails that match the color of her ears, and fur covers her lower arms and legs.

Personality

Amity is playful, if not a bit smug. She’s proud of herself and her abilities, often making how good she is at not getting caught into a bragging point.
She has a skewed risk/reward ratio, and will often get herself into dangerous situations out of naivete. However, if she’s aware of the danger of something, she tends to take it very seriously.

She can act almost princess-like at times, though it’s typically in a playful way. Even if she steals her way to them, she’s an appreciator of the finer things in life and is known to be a vocal complainer.

Story

I’ll get to it… eventually.

Skills

Resilience:

  • One of the special abilities that Amity’s species possesses is the ability to make genetic adaptations extremely fast – often times in only one generation. While some of her caretakers succumbed to the divine energy that oversaturates the Ruins, Amity was born with an adapted immunity to it.
    • She sheds some of this energy as well, however it’s in such small amounts that it doesn’t cause any harm to others… but still in an amount that sets off detection and warrants an awkward explanation.

Sleight of hand:

  • Not only is Amity good at swiping things, but she’s also very good at not getting caught. She tends to steal small, but expensive goods like watches and jewelry – either to re-sell or for her own personal collection.
    • She does not hold any grudges or predispositions towards those she steals from, and only chooses whoever she feels will bring her to the biggest payday.

Relationships

Rosetta – Found family

Despite the impression she gives to others, Amity was actually very willing to go along with Rosetta. The only member of the street gang she was close to was Kagerou, and Amity was becoming desperate for an avenue to ‘escape’ the greedy motivations of the Underdeck Bosses.
She unironically refers to Rosetta as ‘mom’ and is very grateful for what she’s done.

Kagerou – Girlfriend

Kagerou was the one who gave Amity a place to stay when she had nothing, and though Amity might not be close to any of the other gang members, she’s the queen to Kagerou’s king. Still, Amity worries for Kagerou – as he’s sacrificed his own wellbeing to protect Amity from the Underdeck’s worst time and time again.
After pulling him out with her, she hopes he’ll be able to find peace.

Dina – Found family

Given how close Rosetta is with Dina, it was only natural for Dina to also help give Amity a sense of ‘family’. While not as close as she is with Rosetta, Amity sees Dina fondly – though she was a bit intimidated at first. She’s eternally grateful for Dina’s help in resolving the incident around the machine.

Athena – Found family

Athena is like a big sister to Amity… for better or for worse. The two bicker often, and Athena enjoys teasing Amity a lot, but Amity is still genuinely grateful for any time she can spend with her – especially since Athena has taken the role of Queen full-time.

Yuugi – Fears

Amity has seen what Yuugi is capable of, and is terrified of her – even after leaving the Underdeck. That said, the two rarely interacted, as Kagerou would often intervene.

Suika – Fears

While Amity wasn’t as afraid of Suika’s capacity for physical harm, she was subjected to repeated interrogation by Suika. She was particularly sneaky and managed to often bypass Kagerou, leading to Amity facing her more.

Qing’e – Complicated feelings

In hindsight she has now, Amity is very aware that Qing’e wasn’t the most stable in her final days and the time leading up to it. And though she knows Qing’e ultimately wasn’t at fault, she still has bitter memories associated with her. Amity is unaware that Qing’e was reanimated.

Hollyhock – Former caretaker

Before she left the bunker, Hollyhock was Amity’s sole companion after her physical caretakers all passed. She was overjoyed to reunite with her, and even though Amity is an adult now, Hollyhock and Rosetta bounce the ‘custody’ of Amity.

Minor relationships

Coco – Acquaintance

Amity isn’t super familiar with Coco, however sees her frequently when visiting the Pheromosan kingdom’s palace. Coco seems nice enough, and often offers to help Amity – though Amity usually declines, preferring to work solo.

Tonantzintla – Acquaintance

As Amity would later discover, Tonantzintla would speak to her psychically in the bunker – something she thought was just an ‘imaginary friend’. She’s glad their freedom has finally meant closure, but on a personal level thinks they’re a bit too dorky to hang around.

Tuesday – Neutral on

While Yuugi and Suika were dreadful, Amity doesn’t mind Tuesday too much – as they’ve either been deadpan or helpful in their interactions with her.

Maria – ‘Niece’ (Arc II)

Amity watched Maria grow up, and during that time she’s done nothing but encourage her rebellious streak – or ‘be a bad influence’, in Athena’s words. Amity thinks being the ‘cool aunt’ is worth all the scolding she gets, though.

Diana – ‘Cousin’ (Arc II)

One would think the two would be closer, but their personalities simply contrast too much. While Amity has assisted Diana a few times on her inquest as the ‘violet detector’, it was mostly formal.

Pandora – Respects

Amity had met Pandora in brief instances prior in the Ruins, and had disliked her attempts of seizing the bunker. But now, since Amity has begun beast hunting as one of her many freelance gigs, she’s realized Pandora isn’t all too bad since the two have rubbed shoulders more. In fact, due to Pandora’s connections with Athena, she’s offered Amity invaluable training.

Trivia

  • While the Ultra Recon headquarters was under the impression Amity had died in the bunker, they’ve since been informed she’s alright, likely by Hollyhock. Amity hasn’t contacted them – and isn’t even familiar with them in the first place.
  • Even after Tonantzintla’s release, Amity still doesn’t know what was so important about the machine – since nobody seemed to tell her.
  • Her casual interest in parkour has nearly gotten her arrested more than stealing and faking her identity to get into parties has.
  • Amity is aware Dina has other ‘daughters’ living in Waterfall, however Dina has convinced Amity not to visit – on account of… certain ‘eccentric’ figures living there.

Meta commentary

  • I find Amity a fun character to write, because she’s energetic and also knows like half the cast.
