One day, a strange visitor greeted Arceus in the Hall of Origin – a being that didn’t seem like she should be there.
She wanted to use the extent of her power in ‘this world’… but Arceus was frightened, and sealed her away in the worlds of spirits and distortion below the Hall of Origin.
While initially a bit upset, it would seem their visitor got comfy. So Arceus granted her the power of Giratina’s emissary, and told her to keep to herself.
That visitor was Anniel. And while being stuck in a reverse world for all of eternity isn’t ideal, she makes the best of it and has fun when she can! Even if that means humoring power-hungry mortals looking to recreate the universe.
While her origins are a mystery, she’s decided this world is her home now. And though she may be confined, her circle of influence spreads much farther than anyone realizes – all according to plan!
…Though whatever her ‘plan’ is seems to be a mystery as well.
Appearance
Due to her abuse of the warped perception in the Distortion world, Anniel’s height is a relative mystery – she seems to always appear slightly taller than whoever she’s talking to.
She has short, bob-cut blonde hair, decorated with a red amaryllis flower – the same color as her eyes.
Though not visible when she wears her large cloak, Anniel’s legs seem to fade into mist past the knee, and she always hovers.
Due to not being restricted by human bounds of how one should look, she’s always in godform, with Giratina’s wings visible.

Personality
Anniel comes across as scary and intimidating to most – as she’s quite literally the embodiment of the unknown and eldritch. She’s quite aware of this, and enjoys playing into it for good fun… but really, Anniel is rather outgoing and approachable, all things considered.
She’s very agreeable, and often coasts along for the ride for things she’d otherwise think are silly or stupid, simply because she’s bored and wants some entertainment.
Being the effective master of the world between worlds, Anniel is very sympathetic and may pull some strings if she feels a soul is unfortunate enough. The reverse is true as well – she has a particular joy in tormenting the ‘disgusting’ beings locked away deep in distortion.

Emissary of Giratina:
- Master of the Distortion world:
- Anniel has total control over the goings on of the Distortion world, and a whole lot of control over the spirit world. What goes on there is her business, and though she’s lax about running the place, it’s under control.
- Anniel cannot leave the spirit/’middle’ plane, as she was bound there by Arceus. However, she has two loopholes;
- Anniel has been known to inhabit ‘puppets’, which are humans or pokemon she controls. This is her version of the sims.
- If a red chain is constructed, Anniel can be pulled out of the distortion world in Origin form for a short period. She can’t do much in this state, but is still very powerful.
- Anniel cannot leave the spirit/’middle’ plane, as she was bound there by Arceus. However, she has two loopholes;
- Anniel has total control over the goings on of the Distortion world, and a whole lot of control over the spirit world. What goes on there is her business, and though she’s lax about running the place, it’s under control.
- God of antimatter:
- A lot of things surrounding Anniel don’t make sense, because that’s her job. She represents the reverse ideology of reality itself.
- Conditional immortality…?:
- Legends stop aging physically at age 21, after that, they do not age and as such, cannot die from old age, though they can be killed through other means.
- But, uh, I don’t think she can actually be killed, man.

Relationships
Aster – Puppet’s daughter
Despite never truly speaking, Anniel is very fond of Aster – due to her puppet Annushka being Aster’s mother. She finds the fate surrounding her funny, and wishes to one day formally speak with her – though realizes Aster might not want this.
Emmy – Puppet’s former lover
Emmy thinks she doesn’t know Anniel well… but the two were quite close at one point. Anya had a relationship with Emmy as Annushka, up until Annushka’s death. Anniel is a bit jealous of how Emmy is doing with her current wife up in the Hall of Origin now.
Orchid – Close friend
Anniel and Orchid are close friends, with Anniel playing a key part in Orchid’s grieving process after her death. Anniel likes to spend time in the upper spirit world with Orchid, and finds her dedication admirable.
Zinnia – ‘Daughter in law’
Because of Orchid and Cynthia’s family history, Anniel has a fondness for Zinnia. Also influenced by her partnership with Aster, Anniel likes to affectionately refer to Zinnia as a daughter-in-law.
Anniel made the executive decision to return Zinnia’s soul to her body after the Joseph Stone trial, citing she owed her parents a favor.
Volo & Cyrus – ‘Roomates’
The two ‘permanent residents’ of the Distortion world who AREN’T stuck in eternal damnation – there for a very similar reason. As a consequence of creating the red chain, both Volo and Cyrus were dragged into Anniel’s domain, and are stuck tolerating her for time eternal.
Anniel finds Cyrus’s company pleasant, but wishes Volo would shut up.
Trivia
- While she mostly lets the pokemon stuck in distortion be, she does keep a shiny ducklett as a companion. Its soul seems immune to decay, somehow.
- Anniel is one of the 3 remaining ‘old gods’, aka original emissaries. The other two are Amalthea and Emmy.
- She’ll sometimes ‘borrow’ the entertainment devices from those residing in the upper spirit world.
- She does not need to eat, but is still a sucker for anything that includes a meat and cheese combo.
Meta commentary
- Anniel predates Pokeau entirely – her true origins are a bit… complicated, but I feel it’s safe enough to say that she ‘first’ popped up as an extra in my original AC:NL save.
- ‘Anniel’ refers more towards her entityship within Pokeau, while Anya is her real name.
