“Couldn’t you have like, knocked? It’s like you’re trying to stage a coup in here.”
–Athena, Bug’s princess
Having lost memories of her past to delirium, Athena showed up to the Pheromosan Empire’s royal court, collapsed in a heap of exhaustion.
In a mix of intrigue from the far-off traveller, loneliness from the loss of her daughter, and an awe for this mysterious stranger’s beauty, the Queen took Athena in as her host.
Since then, Athena has fit right in – deemed to be a blessed member of the court. Thanks to Athena, her suggestions have allowed for less tense foreign affairs amidst a period of unease, until…
The Queen was assassinated.
Nobody knows who did it – people would argue that it was the work of those from the Ultra Station, with others thinking it was an inside job.
With her lavish lifestyle suddenly thrown for a loop, Athena found herself unable to calm the chaos as her kingdom became angry.
To make things worse, the energy from the celestial river that flowed by the edge of the desert became a trickle – bringing things to a tipping point that brought Athena out of her society’s bubble, to meet a strange scientist and socialite duo with grand ideals – as well as the princess of the neighbouring kingdom.
And though the overall tone seems bleak, could these new acquaintances be the keys Athena has sought after to avoiding mutually assured destruction?
Appearance
Athena is 5’5″ (165cm), with a fat build. She has long, light blue hair, parted by a single horn on her forehead. She has bright cyan eyes, and duo-tone, droopy, blue and purple ears.
Per her species, she also possesses elaborate leg stockings.
She tends to dress loose and airy, but still with an incredibly upscale flair.
Athena was designed by HALZIONDEI
Personality
Athena may initially come off as airheaded, only seeming that she enjoys the beauty of herself and her surroundings. And while that’s true to an extent, it’s not the whole story.
She knows a lot more than she lets on since being to close to the former Queen, and only wants the best for those in the kingdom.
Athena simply enjoys taking it slow and enjoying life to the fullest, and would do anything to protect that lifestyle.
Socially, she acts a bit like a social media influencer, despite social media not being popular in the Ultra Desert – which she believes must be a link to her past. She’s also noted to speak in a similar manner, and is quite slangy.
Story
I’ll get to it… eventually.
Skills
Species abilities:
- Universal appeal:
- Similar to phermosa, Athena’s species seems to possess some kind of ‘appeal’ to others – leading to them allowing to fit in with other species with little to no issue. This is likely how Athena was able to fit into a kingdom known for being unwelcoming towards non-pheromosa.
- Resiliency:
- While not immortal by any means, Athena’s species heals wounds and recovers from illness faster than most under normal circumstances.
Charisma:
- Athena is essentially the hype man of her kingdom – not only is she excellent at keeping small conversations lively, but she can effectively use her skills to improve morale on a larger scale.
- She can easily calm a situation that’s about to fall into chaos – however, in an already chaotic situation, she becomes overwhelmed.
Eye for style:
- While it’s nothing uncommon for someone living in the Phermosan Empire, Athena has an astounding eye for what looks good, and has very high standards regarding such.
- Her specialty lies in interior design, and she’s been responsible for more than a handful of refreshes and renovations around the palace.
Relationships
Coco – Royal designer
Athena’s most beloved advisor, who’s been by her side since her mysterious arrival. Athena feels as though she can trust Coco with anything, including the fate of herself and the kingdom.
Frank – Royal advisor
Athena is the only one who seems to tolerate Frank’s attitude, claiming that he’s just wiser than others know. Despite having no memory of her past, Athena still feels a comfortable familiarity around him. She wishes he’d be able to read the room sometimes, but ultimately does not reprimand him for being sour around guests.
Maria – Daughter (Arc II)
Athena loves her daughter, and tries her best to ensure she both has room to grow, and stays safe from… questionable peer influence. While Athena knows when she has to be firm, she’s still willing to let Maria have a little bit of rebellious fun, even if Maria doesn’t think the same.
Leilani – Girlfriend
Athena wasn’t sure what to expect when she ventured into the neighbouring kingdom of the Ultra Jungle, but it surely wasn’t a girlfriend. Despite their differences, Athena finds Leilani wonderful to be around, being resourceful and strong-willed.
Daichi – Comrade…?
Though both would claim their relationship is strictly business, it seems that for Athena at least, there’s a more playful and flirtatious fondness. Daichi seems relatively oblivious to this, but still considers Athena a close friend who she doesn’t mind sharing her homeland’s resources with.
Dina – Comrade & family figure
Athena wasn’t sure what to think of Dina at first – she used to work for the Station’s government, after all. But over time, Athena has grown a fondness towards Dina. And though they’ve drifted on their own paths in recent years, Athena finds Dina is someone she can reliably fall back on.
Rosetta – Comrade & family figure
Met through Dina, Athena admires Rosetta a great amount and finds getting along with her easy due to their shared values. She also finds her dedication to secrecy important, and sees no problem in coming to her for help on more sensitive things.
Amity – Little sister figure
Even if she can be a bit like an ‘annoying little sister’ at times, Athena cares about Amity – and finds her spunky, crafty nature to make her effective at solving problems when Athena calls for her.
Minor relationships
The Pheromosa Queen – Previous host
Athena’s host, up until she was assassinated. The two had a mother-daughter like relationship, though most of that was the Queen’s projection after her birth daughter went missing. Still, Athena would often be seen by her side and was allowed to sit in on even the most top-secret meetings.

⠀Arael – Dislikes (Arc II)
Athena has a disdain for Arael, and her general recklessness. She doesn’t really enjoy that her daughter has taken a liking to her, but feels as though her dislike of Arael is too trivial to turn into a big deal.
Pandora – Complicated
Die by my hand… unless…?
Trivia
- She forgets the reason she left and ended up in the Ultra Desert, but doesn’t seem at all interested in trying to figure it out.
- She calls people ‘bestie’ both passive-aggressively and unironically kindly. Good luck deciphering which!
- She’s installed some rather elaborate and extensive water features around the kingdom’s capital, including multiple pools and public baths – which she appears to have a fondness towards.
- While Athena is generally peaceful, she’s a surprisingly capable fighter.
Meta commentary
- Athena was inspired by a mix of things, though the primary runner was aesthetics of ancient Greece.
- Had Amalthea not already been a character, Athena’s name likely would have been Amalthea.
