Halley

Return to Ultra Arc characters || Page last updated: January 8th, 2024

Halley was considered to be one of ‘the most exciting’ additions to the Crater’s roster of cosmonauts by spectators, with an unrivaled charisma and sense of confidence.
But when her carelessness inadvertently resulted in the worst aeronautical disaster since ‘the original sin’… Halley was lucky to even get out alive.

Now put into an early, permanent retirement due to her injuries, Halley was completely lost. Her spark was gone, and though she tried to force herself into recreational sports to fill some kind of hole, she fell deeper into despair.

At least, that was until her former boss, Daichi, took matters into her own hands.
Not wanting Halley to succumb to the sense of hopelessness, Daichi took time out of her days to help Halley adjust. Primarily, she onboarded Halley into a bake sale collective that also doubled as a support group for those suffering from similar trauma.

Halley thought it was a bit silly at first, but thanks to Daichi’s intervention, she began to improve despite it all. And through learning to love herself again, Halley developed a growing admiration for Daichi… an admiration that she seemed to have in common with the coordinator of her support group.
While she believes their bickering over her is mostly dumb and harmless, Halley can’t help but hope Daichi will ‘pick’ her.

Ultimately, between cookies and muffins galore, will this sense of yearning go anywhere – or will it lead to tensions that threaten the support system Halley relies on? …If Daichi even notices, that is.

Appearance

Halley is 5’07, and has a fit, lean build. She has shoulder-length, messy dark brown hair, which is shaved on one side. Her eyes are green, and she has two pointy, upright ears. Her leg fur starts after the knee, and possesses quite a bit of feathering. While the rest of her hair and fur can be considered ‘silky’, her tail fur has a more curled texture to it.

Per her species, Halley green lunar halo floating by her head, as well as a lunar mark of the same phase on her leg.

Personality

With an incredibly headstrong attitude, Halley has unmatched confidence in herself and her abilities. At least… that’s how it was. After the accident, Halley’s confidence and self-worth was knocked down significantly, and nowadays, she often finds herself feeling sub-par and wracked with guilt.

But the support group has helped – and while her self-confidence is nowhere near the levels it was before the accident, she’s found she has a little bit of spark back, as opposed to complete despair.

Story

I’ll get to it… eventually.

Skills

Athletic:

  • Even if Halley’s overall physical ability was cut by the accident, she was already much more fit than the average person before it happened. While she is prone to intense fatigue and dizzy spells from overworking, or even for no reason at all, Halley is still quite capable in what she can do without pushing herself.
    • However, due to her nature, Halley almost always ends up pushing herself too far anyways.

Baking:

  • Though Halley is mostly at the bakesale support group for the emotional support, she’s still picked up quite a bit of knowledge about baking – especially from Marilynn.

Relationships

Daichi – Former boss & Crush

Halley was able to appreciate Daichi a lot as a boss, but after their relationship turned from business to casual, Halley has found that her adoration now has a much different tone to it. Halley is oblivious to the fact that Daichi isn’t picking up any of her advances as non-platonic.

Millie – Support group organizer & ‘Rival’

Millie and Halley get along very well, and find they could mutually banter for hours. They have a bit of a playful rivalry going over Daichi, but it seems to be more about them together than it is about Daichi at this point.

Marilynn – Support group member

Halley’s relationship with her parents has always been pretty stable, if not a bit distant – but Marilynn feels almost like a third mom to Halley. Her encouragement and hopeful outlook has definitely gotten Halley out of bad emotional ruts, time and time again.

Minor relationships

Arael – Marilynn’s granddaughter

As Arael has grown up, Halley has noticed her tagging along with Marilynn and Daichi to group meets more and more. As a child she was cute and curious, and though she comes around less now that she’s in her teenage years, she’s matured with a sharp edge – but Halley thinks she’s fun to talk to despite her crassness.

Trivia

  • While she’s downgraded to various forms of braces and compressions as she’s recovered, Halley’s right arm used to be non-functional, and she still has difficulty using it.
    • However, baking has helped her hone her coordination with her left hand, as well as help repair her coordination of her right hand.
  • She plays recreational sports alone most of the time, but often likes to join games others are playing with permission if she’s in a public park.
  • Recently, she’s adopted a poyote puppy, who’s companionship and need for daily walkies has helped quite a bit.
  • She’d probably be the type to make weird substitutions in online recipes, and then complain when her weird substitutions didn’t work.

Meta commentary

  • Halley is the only Ultra Arc character to have gone under a complete design swap, and semi-complete story swap. ‘Halley’ used to be a completely different character design, and took the role that Millie now has – but I had trouble working with that, so I traded that design for the design Halley now uses. Around the same time, Millie found her way into my hands, and the story started to take a bit more solid formation.
