Maddox was born in the big city, and through his passions for song and dance, was able to fulfill his childhood dream of stardom… for a fleeting moment.
With his college roommates, Maddox formed the band of Sorrowful grave king – which, through a stroke of luck, became an underground sensation in the world of goth rock.
For a while, it was great! But as tensions grew among the bandmates and Maddox’s inspiration began to run dry… he felt the only way to save his dream was to summon the god of human creativity through an ingenious performance.
Unfortunately, an accident during that very show put Maddox out of commission… permanently. At least, until he was revived as the very god he wished to summon’s emissary.
Without bandmates or a muse, Maddox felt lost… but upon meeting a strange street punk late at night, the ideas came back to him.
Can he keep weaving this tale of a ‘phantom thief’ until his muse comes back… before he gets caught?
Appearance
Maddox is 5’11”, with a very lanky build. He has slicked back black hair, half dyed a light green color, and brown eyes.
He often wear heavy dark makeup, and clothing of an ‘upscale, flamboyant goth’ variety – even casually.
Maddox was designed by Dracupa
Personality
Maddox is and always has been very dramatic. He enjoys adding ‘spice’ to life, as he says – even if it may or may not cause problems for other people.
He takes his time to appreciate the world around him, and spends more time retrospecting and reflecting than he probably should.
He enjoys being the center of attention, but feels like equally sharing the spotlight can be just as rewarding… but he tends to favor his ideas when with a group more.
Story
I’ll get to it… eventually.
Skills
Emissary of Meloetta:
- God of human creativity:
- Meloetta possesses the power to influence the creative minds of humans on a whim by singing its fabled relic song and dance. This isn’t limited to song and dance, but to any facet of the creative mind.
- Aria/Pirouette forms:
- Depending on who Meloetta is aiming to inspire, it can switch its form to be more suited to either an audible or visible experience.
- Conditional immortality:
- Legends stop aging physically at age 21, after that, they do not age and as such, cannot die from old age, though they can be killed through other means.
Singing:
- Thanks to early support from his admittedly wealthy parents, Maddox has had vocal training for singing from a young age. He has an impressive vocal range, capable of inserting his voice into whatever genre or role you throw at him.
Showmanship:
- Maddox knows more than enough on how to put on a good show, and knows how to rile up a crowd and keep them going.
- However, he tends to always want to ‘outdo’ himself, which has led to his performances becoming increasingly riskier with stunts.
Relationships
Burgh & Grimsley – Former bandmates
Burgh and Grimsley were Maddox’s former bandmates, and though he wishes he could look back on them fondly… he can’t. After the accident, the two rebranded themselves like the band never happened, and it broke Maddox’s heart.
Jack – Adopted stray lesbian
Jack’s attitude is a bit confusing to Maddox, but he believes that he holds the key to his lost muse. Maddox gives Jack a place to stay in Unova out of the streets, and in return, Jack helps play the role of his ‘phantom thief’. Jack likes to call Maddox ‘Mads’, which Maddox is not a fan of.
Justice – Hired PI
Maddox hired Justice to investigate his fabricated phantom thief case, completely unaware that she was no armchair private eye. He knows Jack will be able to keep eluding her, but will Maddox himself be able to keep up?
Julie – Justice’s annoying assistant
Maddox is more antsy around Julie than he is with Justice, simply due to the fact that Julie touching all his things without permission pisses him off more than Justice finding out he’s making everything up.
Trivia
- While he knows Burgh went on to become Castelia’s gym leader, after Grimsley left the elite four, Maddox has been completely unable to trace his former bandmate… and doubts Jack’s claims that he’s been seen in Alola.
- He can play piano, albeit very poorly. This does not stop him from trying to play for guests.
- He’s able to live very comfortably off of residual income from the band, due to Grimsley going missing and Burgh wanting to deny any association.
- He doesn’t get out as much as one should, on account of the fact that he’s supposed to be dead. However, his makeup tends to conceal his identity well.
