Pearl Markov

Pearl is the daughter of Emmy and Renee, and a ray of sunshine. Nothing can seem to bring her down, and she tries her hardest at any task she has at hand.

Born in Rustboro, Pearl’s childhood was rather idyllic, as she always was surrounded by people who cared for her.
Though, she never really ‘fit in’ around kids her age, and has always vastly preferred the company of her family, who she thinks are the best friends she could ever have.

Pearl always wanted to be a serious trainer like her mom, and from communicating with a friend online, she decided she wanted to go to Alola of all places. On her 15th birthday, her present was a plane ticket to the region, and she couldn’t have been more excited.
A rather strange sequence of events led to Pearl becoming Alola’s first champion, and while she was a bit overwhelmed, she’s glad everything seems alright.

She currently lives with Lillie in Malie city, and though the future has brought her with unprecedented challenges and hardships, she’s finally ready to move forwards in a bright new world.

Appearance

Pearl is 5’7″ (170cm), with an average-thin body type. She has freckles covering her whole body, red eyes, and fluffy reddish-brown hair. She loves to wear anything cute and pink, but her most common outfit is a pink turtleneck, khaki shorts, and white socks with flip-flops – which is Zinnia’s fault as a poor fashion influence.

She always wears a light yellow ribbon as a headband, as it was a gift from Aster when she was a baby.

Personality

All of Pearl’s optimism is 100% genuine, something people tend not to believe. She has a love for the world she lives in and the people she’s close to, and always looks on the bright side, no matter how dark a situation can get.
That’s not to say she’s childish or naive, which she definitely isn’t. While she can act a bit childish at times due to being a bit sheltered while growing up, Pearl mostly knows how to fend for herself and is fully capable of being serious when she needs to be.

That said, she tends to soak up everyone’s emotions quickly, especially since she tends to be a ‘therapist friend’. She’s not the best at letting these out in a healthy way, and she tends to bottle them up before they overflow – in which case she usually hides in her pocket dimension until she calms down instead of letting others help.

Story

This section is old and outdated. It currently only goes up to the in-universe year of 2027 and is due for an update!

Early life (0-14)

Pearl’s birth was magical in nature – as she was granted as a gift from Arceus. After Emmy’s resolution of the Mt. Coronet incident, Arceus decided to take two birds with one stone: both by rewarding Emmy for preventing a dimensional collapse, and creating a new emissary of Palkia.

So, Pearl was born. She was born into a time of peace; the Joseph Stone trial had concluded about a month prior, and everyone was finally together and on their feet again. Because of this, Pearl was welcomed into the world with the open arms of many, and was always surrounded by love, even when her… unexpected powers made things difficult.

Emmy hadn’t actually been informed her daughter would be taking the role as emissary of Palkia, and the two new parents were in for quite the shock when they learned their 1-year-old could teleport. Still, they dealt with it the best they could, and still made sure to shower their daughter in love nonetheless.
Pearl eventually came to know Aster, Zinnia, Steven, Wallace, and Cynthia as her family, and would frequently visit and be visited by them. They all pitched in to give pearl the best childhood they could, holding hope in her as a child in a new generation without conflict.

As Pearl grew, her actions were very split – being clingy and nervous around strangers, and energetic and sweet around her family. Multiple family members had tried to take her to work to have her try and open up, but she’d stay by their side the hide the whole time. It didn’t change much when she started going to school, either – she was just as anxious around people she didn’t know. Still, she continued to be a ray of sunlight when around her family, and was quite sociable when them as well – even at a young age, she’d be content to just ask Aster or Zinnia about things for hours.

When Pearl turned 10 years old, she brought the proposition of becoming a trainer to her parents – Pearl had always dreamt of becoming a powerful trainer like her mom, after all. She was convinced down from the idea, but with the promise that she’d eventually be able to adventure on her own when she turned 15. So, Pearl patiently did her best to wait. During that time, she began training with Emmy and Aster to better control her emissary powers, and was able to manifest her own pocket space, among other powers tied to space itself.

Training had given Pearl some confidence in herself she didn’t know she had, and she slowly became bolder in her interactions with others – starting with chatting with others online, connecting over an interest in the idol Lune’s works. It was difficult at first, but Pearl was slowly able to bring her loving personality to the forefront, and extended her love for the world around her to everyone, not just her close family. She had finally broken out of her shell, and she seemed to make friends wherever she went.
By communicating online, Pearl met a boy around her age named Hau, and the two eventually became very good friends over shared interests. Hau lived all the way in Alola, and as Pearl’s 15th birthday approached, Pearl got an idea.

Journey to Alola (15)

Pearl’s childhood could be considered idyllic, but Pearl wanted to see more of the world. When her 15th birthday was just around the corner, she remembered her mother’s promise of letting her go on a pokemon journey, and set her sights on convincing them to let her go to Alola.
Alola was very far away from Hoenn, but Pearl felt like an adventure wouldn’t be an adventure if it was in a place she’d already come to know. It took a lot of convincing and talks between Renee and Emmy, but when her birthday finally came around, Pearl was ecstatic to receive her gift – a plane ticket to Alola.

It was a teary departure from the airport – the rest of whom Pearl considered family showed up to see her off. They waved as Pearl hopped onto the plane, and from then, Pearl knew she couldn’t look back. This was her first real chance at independence, and she promised to herself that she wasn’t going to blow it.

The plane ride was long, and jetlagged Pearl wasn’t entirely sure who she should be looking for until she spotted a hand waving and calling her name from the crowd. It was an older woman, supposedly one of Emmy’s friends from the past, she had agreed to let Pearl use her spare room as a sort of ‘home base’. The woman was a bit overbearing for Pearl, especially considering she had just been in the air for 12 hours, but pearl was polite nonetheless. The two went back to her house on the outskirts of Hau’oli city, where Pearl crashed into bed.

The air was humid upon Pearl’s awakening, but she didn’t mind. The first thing she did upon waking up was to look out of her window and take a deep breath – this was a whole new world to her, after all. She made sure to text Hau that she was in the area, as she had forgotten to do so the night prior. After eating breakfast, Pearl learned that she’d be meeting with a professor to help her get started on her adventure, and she was to meet his assistant in nearby Iki town. Pearl was ready to take on the day, and she knew Hau lived in Iki town, and was excited to see him for real.

Pearl left the house with her bag, and went on her way to where she was supposed to meet the professors assistant. But after some waiting, she never came, and Hau didn’t either. Pearl’s boredom turned into curiosity, and she continued hiking the trail she was waiting on. She eventually came across a girl her age dressed in all white, who was panicked and trying to beckon towards her a… pokemon? The creature on the bridge didn’t look like anything of this world. Pearl assumed the girl must’ve been the professor’s assistant, and called out and waved. The girl turned to Pearl, but with no response. Pearl noticed the pokemon was being circled and occasionally struck by spearow, but she didn’t see any reason to fear the birds. Pearl told the girl she’d grab her pokemon for her, and before the girl in white could protest, Pearl was on her way across the rickety bridge.
Pearl made it to the middle and was easily able to grab the pokemon, who seemed weak from the spearow’s attacks. But as the two’s combined weight settled in the middle of the bridge, Pearl heard a heart-dropping snap of the rotting ropes that kept the bridge up. Pearl knew she could teleport out of this situation, but she felt she couldn’t think as she plummeted to the waters below.
All of a sudden, Pearl was quickly grabbed and guided back to the cliffs above the bridge where the girl was waiting. Pearl looked to see, and she was able to quickly spot the pokemon who saved her before it disappeared in an electric blur.

The two girls were left shocked, and unsure what to say or do – but the pokemon Pearl had rescued seemed happy to be back near the girl again, and happily bounced back to her. Pearl remembered the situation she was in, and got up, facing the girl. She introduced herself as Pearl, and she had been curious as to why she wasn’t waiting at the professor’s meeting point. The girl had a blank expression for a second, before she remembered. She apologized profusely, no matter how much Pearl told her it was alright – the girl introduced herself as Lillie, the professor’s assistant. She said that her pokemon had escaped her, and she went to chase after it. Lillie stepped down and let her pokemon hop into her back and zipped it up – Pearl asked about it, and Lillie only said it was a special pokemon, not giving any more detail.

The two walked down the path until Hau and a man in a labcoat were seen approaching. Pearl was immediately able to recognize Hau and ran up to him to give him a hug, as the two friends were finally able to meet in real life. There was some talking over each other as both Pearl and Hau tried to explain what happened on their end to eachother, but eventually, the man in the labcoat told both of them to calm down and introduced himself as the professor, Kukui. The four talked and walked back to town together, where Pearl and Hau were to choose their starters.
The decisions were final, and Pearl chose Popplio, while Hau chose Litten. The two battled after choosing, with Pearl coming out as the victor. It was late after the battle, so the group decided to call it a day and to discuss the island trials in the morning.

Trials and tribulations (15-16)

Pearl was somewhat familiar with the idea of the island trials, and how it was similar to the gym challenge she was familiar with at home. She was under the impression that it was only for little kids, but Hau reassured her that anyone under 18 could participate. So, Pearl and Hau signed up for the island trials together, and made on their way – but not before Lillie could have a say in it.

Show more – Warnings for brief mention of kidnapping

Lillie had seen how Pearl and Hau battled the night before, and with the professor’s permission, she had asked Pearl if she could travel alongside her and Hau. Pearl happily agreed, and the 3 of them formed a traveling party.

The trials were simple at first, and Pearl and Hau were easily able to get past them. The first island’s trial was a breeze, and soon enough the two found themselves on the ferry to the Akala island. Lillie said her goodbyes here, and after adventuring with Pearl and Hau, she had become very good friends with the two. She was only going to be staying by the port, and wouldn’t be following the two into the inner parts of the island – but she still promised to communicate by text. It was here where Pearl and Hau also split ways; Hau would spend a lot more time going through the trials, while Pearl made sure to always return back to the city to see Lillie. Pearl was particularly interested in Lillie’s strange ‘pokemon’, who she’d learned was named Nebby. Pearl pondered telling Emmy about it, but had promised to Lillie that she wouldn’t tell anyone.

During Pearl and Hau’s previous trials, they had run-ins with a group who called themselves Team Skull, but never thought much of it, as they were defeated easily. When Hau asked Kukui about it, he just told them they were a bunch of delinquents who found purpose in messing with trial-goers, and to Pearl, she thought that was that. She didn’t give much mind to it, and mostly ignored the grunts. That was, until one day – Hau and Pearl were training together, when they came across a boy who looked eerily similar to Lillie. He introduced himself as Gladion of Team Skull, and challenged Pearl to a battle. Pearl won, even with Gladion’s strange pokemon against her. After winning, she asked him if he knew anyone named Lillie, to which Gladion responded with a cold glare, and left.
Pearl and Hau weren’t sure what to think of the encounter, but assumed Gladion must know Lillie somehow.

As the trials on Akala continued, Pearl and Hau also came into contact with a group calling themselves the Aether Foundation. They were offered a tour of their facility, and the two met the foundation’s founder: a woman named Lusamine. During the visit, Hau mentioned Lillie offhand, which caused Lusamine to tense up and request he be quiet. When Pearl took a good look at Lusamine, she could finally put it together: Lusamine, Gladion, and Lillie all must’ve been related. And from the looks of it, they had some family problems as well. Pearl got a bad vibe from Lusamine, and noted it for later if she ever ran into Aether employees again.

Pearl and Hau moved onto the next island, and this time, Lillie followed them. She was looking to learn more about possible links to Nebby and the island’s guardians, especially after the guardian Tapu Koko saved Pearl and Nebby. All was going well: Hau and Pearl were making steady progress on the island trials, and were preparing to head to the next island. During their travels, Pearl developed feelings towards Lillie and confessed them, to which they were reciprocated. The gang had even run into Gladion a bit as well, and while still rather cold, he had begun to warm up to Pearl and Hau in a rival-ish sort of way.
It was all going smoothly, until Pearl had to enter the locked-down town of Po, which had been overrun by Team Skull. A yungoos had been stolen from a child at the aether house nearby, and the child was quite upset. Hau stayed behind with Lillie as Pearl entered the walled city, trusting she could go in herself. And she did – Pearl was able to swiftly defeat the grunts in her way and use teleportation to sneak inside and defeat Skull’s rather washed-up boss, Guzma.
But it was all a trap – Team Skull had stolen the yungoos to get Pearl away from the aether house, making Lillie an open target. Hau was defeated, and Lillie and Nebby were kidnapped. Gladion arrived at the scene shortly after, and concluded it must’ve been ordered by Lusamine, who he revealed as the two’s mother, to no surprise.

Obviously, pearl wanted to do something, and so did Hau.
They had gotten an awful air from Lusamine from the start, and her recent action just confirmed their suspicions. The two made a plan to raid the Aether facility, in hopes of finding Lillie and putting a stop to this once and for all.
Before the two could leave, Gladion insisted on coming with the two as well, as he knew how to navigate the facility. So, the three friends got together, and took Team Skull’s boat out to the floating island to rescue Lillie and Nebby.

It was difficult reaching Lillie – the workers of Aether were positioned like grunts to gaurd the facility, and everything was on lockdown. But with Gladion’s help and Pearl’s battling prowess, the gang was able to reach the secret lower level of the Aether facility. There, they found branch chief Faba hiding out – who was immediately interrogated by Galdion as to where his sister was, as Pearl and Hau stood idly by. As Gladion was trying to get information from Faba, Pearl began to snoop around the lab a bit. The secret lab complex was below the ocean’s surface, so the noise of water clogged Pearl’s ears as she search through Faba’s computer. He named his files well, and because of this, Pearl was quickly able to pull up information on both Gladion’s strange pokemon and on Nebby.

Gladion’s pokemon was Type: Null, a chimera pokemon created with the intent of killing gods and otherwordly beasts. Reading the words on the screen, Pearl felt a shiver through her body, knowing both members of her family and herself were technically divine beings. She also looked into information on Nebby, who was really called Cosmog. Apparently, they were a child god and were used for testing with type: Null. They were also said to be capable of opening wormholes to other worlds, and Lusamine was going to attempt to use this to make contact with otherworldly beings. Pearl turned off the computer’s screen and slid back in her chair with a sigh – as she did, Faba was finally released from Gladion’s pincer as he confessed Lusamine was hiding in a secret portion of the Aether facility with Lillie – and he gave up the keys. The three teenagers left him alone, and went running for the house on the floating island that harbored the secret room.

Gladion was able to use the keys in the facility’s house to open up a secret stairwell behind a bookcase – and as they went down the dark staircase, they came upon an ongoing scene. Lillie was standing helplessly by her mother as she stuffed Nebby in a strange-looking container – it appears they had just arrived as well. When Lusamine noticed the three, she cried out that it was too late, and began powering up a machine directed at Nebby. Lillie shouted out for the three to stay back, but Pearl went and battled Lusamine anyways. Pearl won the battle, and while she was expecting Lusamine to surrender, all she could do was laugh as the machine seemed to tear apart space and time itself in the room and open up a hole in reality using Nebby’s power. Lusamine left with a glare, and jumped through the wormhole before anyone could say anything.
After that, it was quiet. The machine powered off, and Lillie rushed to hug Pearl. She was obviously shaken up, and after running to Pearl, she ran to the container and opened it – only to find Nebby is a different state, seemingly deactivated. Hau and Gladion slowly approached the room where the chaos had happened and made sure to make sure Lillie was alright as well. The 4 decided it was best to think it over overnight.

Ultra Space (16)

In the morning, Pearl couldn’t find Lillie anywhere. She got up fairly early, so she expected Lillie to still be asleep in her room. After some looking around, Pearl found Lillie watching the ocean outside, in a new outfit. Lillie noticed Pearl, and turned around, asking her what she thought of her new outfit. The two conversed for a bit, Lillie saying that the entire experience made her realize she was tired of being ‘weak’ and that Pearl inspired her to do things for herself.
So, from now on, Lillie was taking on a new her – her ‘Z-powered’ form. Pearl understood what Lillie was going for, and wholeheartedly supported her sentiment. Lusamine had been a weight on Lillie for so long, and now that she had vanished, even if it was under concerning circumstances, Lillie felt more free.

Show more – Warnings for serious injury

Lillie, Hau, Gladion, and Pearl made a plan to go to Poni island for its trials, as it was all Hau and Pearl had left to complete. Lillie wanted to follow Pearl, hoping that maybe Poni island’s connection with Alola’s mysterious sun and moon god could help Nebby leave their slumbering state. The 4 friends traveled, and eventually split into groups of two. With a little bit of showing off her powers, Pearl was able to gain the trust of Poni’s kahuna Hapu to hold the solar and lunar flutes, said to be able to summon the god they were created for.

Completing Poni’s trial was a breeze for Pearl, and the path the trial was on led Pearl and Lillie to the Altar of the Moone. Upon climbing the steps, Nebby began to faintly glow through Lillie’s bag, so the two decided if there was any place to play those flutes, it would be here. Upon going to play the flutes, they seemed to make an otherworldly song themselves without any input from fingers over the holes. Suddenly, the entire area became windy, and Lillie’s bag flew out of her grasp. Nebby also flew out, towards the center of the wind. In a flash of blinding light, Nebby changed their form into that of a bat-like creature, and let out an extraterrestrial cry. Lillie and Pearl stood in Awe, and Lillie slowly walked up to the creature that Nebby had turned into. She called out their name, and the newly reformed Nebby happily responded. They startled the two as they spoke in a human woman’s voice, though it almost sounded ethereal.
“Thank you for caring so deeply for me,” they said, almost bowing to Lillie. The moment lasted for a few seconds before Pearl interjected and asked what had happened back in Aether’s facility. Nebby turned to Pearl, before explaining: Lusamine had used their power to open a wormhole to a place known as Ultra Space. In the process, they entered a unique state of rebirth where they were hibernating. Upon bringing them to the Altar and playing the flutes, and overflow of energy was triggered and they were transformed into their true form… this wasn’t Nebby anymore. This was the Skymother.
Pearl asked about Lusamine, and where she was, to which Skymother replied that she was afraid she was in a very dangerous place. While Pearl and Lillie had no honest motivations to rescue Lusamine, the two’s overabundance of empathy and curiosity clouded their decision, and they decided to at least try and find her. Skymother hesitantly agreed, and opened a portal as Pearl and Lillie hopped on their back, and flew into Ultra Space.

When they arrived in the Ultra Deep Sea, Lillie and Pearl were overtaken by how it felt to be there. They were underwater, they could feel that as much – but they could breathe. After getting accustomed to the feeling, Skymother said that they’d carefully watch, but said the place was dangerous and unpredictable. They also said that the energy surge they had received at the Altar would wear off, and that they’d have to head back if they couldn’t find anything. The 3 of them walked for some time, and the whole place appeared desolate.  They saw some strange jellyfish-like ultra beasts floating to the side, but nothing much else other than that. Suddenly, the 3 came across a horrifying sight – it was Lusamine, but it appeared she had merged herself with one of the ultra beasts, becoming a hybrid of sorts. Lillie called out to her, and her mother turned to look – before charging straight towards her.
Pearl was able to quickly change to her god form to block the attack, and thought back to her training; this was her big break. This was the big enemy, and she had to defeat it all on her own.
Pearl summoned her weapons and charged forwards. For the next while, Pearl battled with the creature she called the ‘motherbeast’. She wasn’t sure if she could free Lusamine, but she thought she had to at least try. Pearl wasn’t winning by any means, and was mostly dodging swings from the motherbeasts’s large, tentacle-like arms. But after a period of slashing and teleporting out of the way of attacks, Pearl was too slow, and hit hard by one of the motherbeast’s arms. She fell to the ground, and couldn’t get up from the pain, before she blacked out.

Aftermath (16-17)

Pearl woke up in a black void. She couldn’t move or see anything, but she could hear people talking. They were talking about fractures, spines – they sounded like doctors. Pearl faded in and out of consciousness inside the dreamscape, but eventually, she perked up upon hearing familiar voices. They were her parents, and they sounded concerned beyond belief. Emmy was crying, even, worried about if Pearl was going to be alright. Pearl wanted to shout out, to say something, anything to them, but she couldn’t. They eventually left, but Pearl could hear them leave something on a table nearby. It wasn’t long after that Pearl was visited inside the dreamscape by Aster.

“Are you ready to wake up?”, she asked. Pearl suddenly found she could move her body again, and nodded. Aster smiled, and gave Pearl a wave, and then everything was white. And everything hurt.

Pearl had been knocked into a coma by the motherbeast, but she awoke shortly after Aster’s visit. While doctors were afraid about various vitals and were watching Pearl closely, it seems everything began to clear up after Aster’s visit, almost like magic. Pearl was as peppy as ever again in no time, but she still wanted to know what had happened after the incident.

She was given the low-down by Hapu and Lillie – that Skymother had rescued her and brought them out of Ultra Space, and that Skymother had turned back into Nebby. Hapu found them all, and Pearl was rushed to the hospital. Pearl was glad to know Lillie was alright, and afterwards, Pearl was visited by her friends and family who came in to check and make sure she was ok.
When Pearl was also visited by Kukui, she was given the news that the Pokemon League in Alola was nearing completion, and given that Pearl had completed the island trials, she was a top contender. Pearl was excited, and kept it at the front of her mind all the way until she was released from the hospital. Pearl was ready to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become the first champion on Alola.

It wasn’t easy, especially when she had to defeat her friends in the way. She saw victory over Gladion and Hau, and admittedly, she felt bad about defeating them as many times as she had. Still, Pearl trekked on up the mountain the League was based on, and eventually found herself face to face with the elite 4 – which was made up of strong trainers from around the region. She managed to power through all 4 of them, and found herself staring down the champion’s seat. Pearl was giddy, and couldn’t contain herself – she sat down, and felt the joy that came of finally fulfilling her dream of being in a position of power like her mother. But Pearl’s joy was short-lived, as she jumped when she could hear someone’s steps echoing up the stairs.
It was Kukui, and he wanted to challenge Pearl to a battle, wishing to take the champion’s seat for himself. The battle was heated, but eventually, Pearl defeated him and came out as the victor.

Pearl was now the first undisputed champion of Alola.

Present day

Things have finally calmed down for Pearl, at least a bit. She’s still the champion of Alola, and in turn she’s been having to deal with all the business that comes with it. She’s just a tad bit overwhelmed, but has come to be able to manage it all fairly well. She lives with Lillie in an apartment in Malie city, where Lillie is training to be a youth therapist. In addition, the two’s home life got a whole lot stranger when Nebby finally retained their human form. While they don’t seem to have any memories of their brief rendezvous as Skymother, they do still remember Pearl and Lillie, and the two have been taking care of them in their home.

Pearl still continues to discover things about herself and her powers thanks to the help of her mothers, as well as with the help of Aster and Zinnia. She still thinks she’s got a bit to go, but in reality, Pearl has shaped up to become a powerful legend capable of holding her own in the world. She still treasures her family, but she’s more comfortable than ever with opening up and branching out.
The present might be hectic, the past even moreso, but Pearl is living in the moment and ready to do her best.

Skills

Emissary of Palkia:

  • Ability to traverse and create universes/realities:
    • She can essentially do this at will, however is hesitant to create anything aside from a personal pocket space after the incidents with the border between Ultra Space. Otherwise, she can traverse any planes or universes she has created freely.
  • Teleportation
  • Ability to create gaps in space:
    • Pearl can use these gaps to go to alternate dimensions, a different place in the dimension she’s in, or to go into a pocket space. Gaps are a step up from teleportation as she can bring others with her.
  • Connection to Arceus:
    • While Emmy and Renee are her genetic parents, her inherent connection to Arceus makes it a lot harder for her to get seriously injured or die – due to Arceus being picky about who gets to be the emissary of the the original 3.
  • Conditional Immortality:
    • Legends stop aging physically at age 21, after that, they do not age and as such, cannot die from old age, though they can be killed through other means.

Social:

  • Despite being very reserved and completely silent to people she didn’t know when she was younger, Pearl’s optimistic attitude, combined with her learning to form close bonds from her family, led to Pearl being able to make friends with… pretty much anybody.
    • Pearl is fully aware of when somebody is a bad person, and isn’t friendly towards them; though that hasn’t stopped her on some occasions.
    • She’s almost never anxious in social situations, so long as you don’t catch her off-guard.
    • She’s very good at cheering up her friends, though it often comes at the cost of her own emotions.

Determination:

  • Because Pearl lives with the self-inflicted desire to live up to her mothers, combined with optimism and her family’s chain of unbreakable wills, Pearl’s determination is quite strong. It can be a bit of a double-edged sword at times, since she doesn’t know when to stop because something’s become dangerous.

Relationships

Renee – Mother

Pearl looks up to Renee an incredible amount, and has wanted to be like her ever since she was a young child. Unintentionally, this led to some distance growing up, but Pearl still overwhelmingly loves her mom.

Emmy – Mother

Emmy was always Pearl’s primary source of comfort and security, as well as a source for her curiosity. Pearl wants to learn ever more about her mother’s past and her family history, even if Emmy won’t tell her directly.

Lillie – Wife

Their young love didn’t seem to have an expiry date, as Lillie and Pearl are currently happily married. They enjoy each other’s company just as much in a domestic setting as they did on their journey.

Aster – Aunt

Pearl often goes to Aster for insight or advice regarding the less ‘normal’ things in life, like weird prophetic dreams and legendary strangeness. Aster was the one who gave Pearl her yellow bow.

Zinnia – Aunt

Pearl will often confide in Zinnia about things she worries may cause her mothers to worry too much. Generally, Zinnia’s advice is more reliable than Aster’s.

Hau – Best friends

Hau and Pearl have been best friends since they met online when they were 14, and now that they live only a boat ride apart, are major supports in each other’s day to day life.

Cynthia – Grandma figure

Cynthia is like a grandma figure to Pearl, and always willing to smother her in gifts and attention when she’s not busy.

Steven & Wallace – Uncles

Steven and Wallace would frequently babysit Pearl when she was younger, as Aster and Zinnia were deemed ‘too chaotic’. While she hasn’t talked to them in a while, Pearl still remembers them fondly.

Acerola – Good friends

Pearl is closer with Acerola than she is with the other former trial captians, because of Acerola’s role as the emissary of Hoopa. Acerola kind of acts as Pearl’s legendary secretary at times.

Nebby & Skymother – Former child figure

Nebby was like a child to both Lillie and Pearl, who they loved dearly. When Nebby reverted back to Skymother, there was a hole left by Nebby – though Skymother remembers the kindness Pearl and Lillie showed her and regards them with incredible fondness.

Ramiel – Complicated

Pearl finds it a bit awkward whenever she runs into Ramiel, which happens more often than one would expect since they started seeing Lillie for therapy. Pearl is aware they were struggling, but Pearl pins the blame on her burnout on Ramiel nearly destroying the world.

Trivia

  • Pearl probably runs a pastel anime blog and constantly posts positivity.
  • Pearl is not religiously a Draconid, mostly because your god also being your mom would probably be a bit awkward. Still, she studies Draconid history in her free time from Orchid’s translated notes, given to her by Zinnia, mostly because Pearl is curious about her mom.
  • Pearl can’t really tell what’s appropriate to brag about, since she never really had friends her age until she was 13. She still doesn’t really understand why other kids wouldn’t think her aunt being a felon is COOL and RADICAL.
  • Hau tends to manage Pearl’s League work when her battle against burnout becomes too severe.
