Zinnia Higan-Braginski

Zinnia is a bit… all over the place. She’s had a rough past, but has mostly moved past it and now sits as one of the four champions of Hoenn.

Born to Orchid and Cynthia in Sunyshore city, Orchid’s death resulted in Zinnia being moved to Fallarbor town with no knowledge of her other parent for her safety. There, she had a fairly normal adolescence… until she was falsely convicted for her girlfriend’s death.

The years that followed were incredibly rough, but through the support of others and her own perseverance, Zinnia managed to pull herself back up again. She went on to reunite with her lost mother and later, solve the case of Orchid’s death.

Nowadays, she mostly lives an average life (or about as average as you can get for a league champion who’s cheated death twice), running a store with her girlfriend. She’s not quite sure what she’ll do next, but is content to see where life takes her.

Appearance

Zinnia is 5’3″ (160cm), and has a muscular build. She has slightly longer than chin-length black hair, with it tied in the back using the Lorekeeper’s carnelian heirloom bead, which is the same red color as her eyes.

Her usual outfit consists of a black hoodie, khaki shorts, knee-high socks, and flip flops.

Personality

Zinnia has always been a bit unpredictable, and she likes being that way. She goes by her own beat, and won’t be hard-pressed to let anyone else try and stop her. She has her mother’s determination and dedication, and once she’s dedicated to a task, she won’t stop until she sees it through.

She’s rather sarcastic, and can often be downright snarky. She’ll often find that her way of speaking goes ‘too far’ into the territory of insults, in which case she’ll always try and make a heartfelt apology (unless she actually dislikes the person). 

Despite this, she’s quite empathetic when she needs to be and is always willing to lend an open ear and offer advice. She cares deeply for her friends and family, and would do anything to help them.

Skills

Conditional immortality:

• Due to Aster’s meddling, Zinnia experiences conditional immortality, similarly to how legends do. She cannot physically age, and presumably cannot die from old age. However, she may be killed through other means.

Pokemon battling:

• She’s good at it, like, real good. She’s at around Steven’s level of battling prowess and the two train together often.
  • Zinnia’s special talent lies in being able to command borrowed pokemon with ease. She’s able to quickly build up trust with unfamiliar pokemon and use them in battle.

Intelligence:

• Though it’s something she doesn’t let on to about, Zinnia is very smart. Whether it be due to her self esteem or for some other reason, Zinnia denies being as smart as she is, despite her academic skill getting her into an expensive private school on a full scholarship in the past.
  • Her strongest areas are those of reasoning and linguistics.

• She has a limp in one of her legs, though she’s learned to work around it.
• Though originally intended as an insult, she calls Steven ‘prettyboy’ as an affectionate nickname.
• Having recovered Orchid’s notes on Draconid history, Zinnia is currently in the process of translating them into Hoennese, and hopes to distribute them to a wider audience once finished.
