It seemed like a late night without them.

Somewhat against his will, Colress was called to the old P2 Laboratory to recover sensitive information by the lead of the Ex-Plasma Support Society, since he was one of the only remaining people alive who knew the location of the building. He didn’t bother asking about what it was, but all he knew is that it was taking longer than it should. He had partially forgotten the encryption of the systems in the building, and the computers themselves where so old that they were just barely running.

He just sighed.

Colress wanted to call N to help with formulas, but knew the mere mention of Plasma put him on edge. Not like it mattered, though, because there wasn’t even an ounce of cell phone service this far out. So there he sit, in an abandoned, musty building, illuminated by the faint glow of a dying monitor. He was exhausted, and didn’t even want to think about how long he’d been there, though it felt like it’d been an eternity.

He just wanted to be in his arms.
He wanted to listen to her sweet voice again.

His eyes were droopy, and he sat hunched over with his head in his elbows, watching the progress bar of the file transfer slowly fill. His vision crossed out of focus from staring, but it suddenly came together with the sound of a faint alert.
After what seemed like forever, the required files had been transferred. Colress let out a tired sigh as he leaned back in his chair and stretched his arms and legs out. Once he double- and triple-checked that the files were, in fact, actually safely transferred, Colress popped his thumb drive out of the dusty port and shut the computer off, for what would hopefully be the last time.

Colress squinted as he exited the lab, as the setting sun over the ocean glared in his eyes. He wasn’t quite sure how late it was from the sun alone – it was Summer, after all, and the time the sun set seemed to get later and later.

Huh. It was only 8pm.

Still, Colress wanted to get home, more than anything. Thankfully, the travel time via flight was relatively short, and soon enough, he landed on the soft green grass outside the secluded building he called home.
He made his way past the first floor’s laboratory lobby and up to the apartment level’s door, which he unlocked slowly and pushed his body against to open.

All the lights were off, and he could see the light of the TV slightly obscured by a wall. He could hear people talking on the TV, but it was quickly cut off as whatever was playing was paused. Colress moved to set his bag and coat aside as his eyes adjusted to the darkness, but was unaware that he was being silently approached. Suddenly, Colress found himself with arms wrapped around him and a face pressed against his back.

“I missed you.”

The voice was hushed, but it was undeniably N’s.

Colress let out a sigh, finished putting his stuff away, and turned to face his beloved. He gently held N’s hands in his, and placed a kiss on his forehead.

“…Yea.” was all Colress felt he could say, his brain still a bit fried from staring at a screen for hours.

N just let out a small chuckle before holding Colress closer. The two stood there for a while in an embrace, before another familiar voice called out from the living room.

“You know, the bedroom is right there, you two.”

The moment abruptly ended as N let out an annoyed sigh and turned back towards the living room, still holding one of Colress’s hands. Colress followed his boyfriend into the living room, where he could see more clearly that the couch and loveseats around the TV had been transformed into some kind of pillow fort.

And there, sat Lune. She looked smug with herself after her remark, and was sitting cross-legged on the ground in her pajamas holding a large bowl of popcorn.
N swiftly moved over to bap her on the head with a pillow, before sitting down on the ground himself – motioning for Colress to follow.

“So…” Colress sighed, rubbing his eyes to try and adjust to the light level some more.
“What’s all this about?”

“It was Lune’s idea.” N replied, turning to look to the woman next to him.

“You’re saying that like it’s a bad thing! I was just like, ‘hey, dude’s been having a long day, why don’t we set something up for him?’” Lune said before shoving some popcorn into her mouth, passing the bowl over to her left, where N and Colress were sitting.

Colress smiled, and as his brainfog was clearing up a bit, he examined his surroundings a bit more thoroughly. On the TV, there was a paused short video compilation, about halfway through.

“What did you set up, anyways?” he asked, adjusting himself to be more comfortable and beginning to lean against N.

“Nothing much. We were just watching dumb meme compilations waiting for you to come home, really.” N replied.
“But now that you’re here, what do you want to watch?”

Colress’s brain drew a blank.

“Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…”

Lune snickered and elbowed N.

“Told you.”

Colress’s expression turned to one of playful offense.

“Were you two betting on me not being able to make up my mind?”

“I was rooting for you…” N replied with a subtle laugh.

The three bantered a bit before Lune leaned back and picked up the TV’s remote, exiting the paused video and handing it to Colress.

“Well… pick your poison, I guess?” she said with her usual toothy smile.

Colress thought for a moment, scrolling through the recommended videos – which was mostly a mix of memes and Lune’s content. But amidst his scrolling, Colress spotted something that got his attention.

“SHIT!”

“Huh whuh? What’s up?” N said, perking up and looking over to Colress.

“The launch of the newest season of Toku Suit xxx was tonight! You guys wouldn’t mind if I just… binged as much as I can?”

Lune let out a small laugh.

“Pfft, of course! That’s why we set this up! We haven’t done something like this in while, after all.” she said. Her expression then softened as she leaned past N, getting close to Colress’s face.
“Plus, it’s cute when you get all excited about the things you enjoy.”

Almost immediately, Colress flushed up. Something about the way she spoke, the way her words flowed… hit all the right buttons. Embarrassed, Colress covered his red face, and while Lune went to snicker about it, she lost her balance and fell flat in N’s lap.
N rolled his eyes, but eventually the three just laughed it off.

Colress tuned in to the show – which was a recent gundam anime, a genre Colress was always particularly fond of.
As the night went on, the three watched the robots fight, and Colress helped explain what was going on to his partners, who almost completely lacked context of the previous seasons. And as it got later and later, the three got closer and closer – until they were practically piled on top of each other in a mess of snuggles, pillows, and blankets.

Colress simply felt at ease around Lune and N… that he was safe. Their touch was reassuring and comforting, and even after dating for so long, just hearing their words made his heart flutter a bit. Maybe he was just drunk on love after a long day of fighting with technology, but it’s not like Colress cared. If anything, there was no other place he’d rather be.

Colress wasn’t sure when he fell asleep, but he woke up in the morning in the embrace of those he loved most in their makeshift pillow fort. He didn’t want to get up just yet, and instead closed his eyes and felt his partner’s chests rise and fall against his own.
He knew for certain, it was the moments like these he never wanted to end.

It was good to be home.
