📚Nice to meet you

Last night, Yukarin arrived on the surface from Lunaires. This morning, she looks out the balcony at a new world.

Characters: Tonantzintla, Yukarin

Vibe: hold on this is just fridge horror

something short because i was thinking about pre-dd yukarin (which is to say, this is pre-darkest day.)

i realize theres been .. absolutely no public worldbuilding abt these guys i think so. um. tldr

yukarin (before she sort of became a kaiju) is a member of the last species skymom created before exploding, and was a part of the ‘beta’ population introduced to the surface. before this, they were allowed to develop a culture in the massive self sustaining atrium in the lower half of lunaires. this was a thing that happened before skymom exploded

also yukarin was secretly using this as a chance to try and hijack lunaires bc shes #sogirlypop – all she needed was a power source on the surface, and…

“Are you excited, Yukarin?”

Broken out of her trance of staring at the surface courtyard below the balcony, Yukarin’s gaze drifted to the shorter woman her age that had approached her.

“What do you mean?” she asked in response, her tone flat. As usual.

“I feel like any excitement I had wore off when we arrived last night.”

“Boring! I’m at least holding out to see what the people of the surface look like!” the woman huffed, before excitedly running off to bother someone else.

…Right.

Yukarin had sort of been in a perpetual state of over-stimulation and exhaustion since arriving on the surface from Lunaires, as a part of an ‘introductory’ phase of integrating her species fully into the surface’s ecosystem.

Nobody really knew why Yukarin seemed oddly exhausted, of course. She had to grin and bear it – nobody could know.

That’s not to say she was upset… quite the opposite, in fact. But one could only pull so many all-nighters of intensive technical work before they started to find every sound annoying.

But, she managed to tie up her loose ends on Lunaires in time.

She wasn’t sure how much longer there was until the group was to make their formal introduction, but she didn’t feel like she was in a rush to get herself together – so Yukarin opted to continue staring at the courtyard.

It was quiet, with mostly just the sound of the wind… until, a voice.

Two voices.

The accents were definitely… foreign, almost extraterrestrial – Yukarin couldn’t quite figure out what was being said at first.

A door opened and closed, and then a strange being who Yukarin could only assume was the owner of one of the voices stepped into view. They were facing away from Yukarin, and looking up to the sky. They didn’t seem to know that she was watching, and Yukarin almost had to do a double take when she saw the figure’s long, tendril ‘arms’ morph themselves into something more reminiscent of a humanform’s arms.

They made a frame with their newly-transformed fingers, looking up to Lunaires.

“Pretty nifty, huh?”

Yukarin didn’t quite know where the words came from, but couldn’t hold herself back from making the remark.

The figure flinched a little, before turning to look up at the balcony Yukarin was on. They had no mouth and one eye, but proceeded to speak anyways.

This time, Yukarin could almost understand them… but not quite.

“I’m sorry, what did you say?”

“You must be… one of the Lunarians, correct?” they repeated, their annunciation much slower as to allow Yukarin to understand through their unfamiliar accent.

While they didn’t have traditionally emotive facial features, they seemed to be smiling.

“Lunarians? Is that what you’re calling us?”

“You’re from Lunaires, aren’t you? Lunaire-ian! I thought it was a clever demonym, at least.”

“Ohh, I see!” Yukarin replied with a nod.

“Well then! What sort of fancy words would you call yourself, then?”

“Well…” the figure started, tapping their chin.

“As of exactly 6 nights ago… I am the new young emperor of the Deoxian empire, Tonantzintla.”
